The Articles

1. Name
The name of this association is the Japan Society for the Study of Chinese Overseas (JSSCO).

2. Purpose
The purpose of this association is to deepen the exchange of research and scholarship among its members, to develop the study of Chinese overseas in Japan, and to disseminate the research results to the broader society.

3. Service
a. To hold research conferences, symposiums, lectures, etc.;
b. To publish a scholarly journal and books;
c. Others.

4. Membership
a. There are three types of membership: regular member, student member   (including graduate students), and supporting member.
b. Application and withdrawal of the membership need to be approved by the regular board of directors.
c. Regular board of directors can decide on cancellation of membership if,
(1) a member does not pay membership fee for over two years,
(2) a member impairs the honor of the Association.

5. Annual fee
a. Regular member: 8000 Yen
  Student member: 3000 Yen
  Supporting member: 10000 Yen
b. Membership fee should be paid annually. Those who became members in midway of the year should also pay full-year fee with the practicable privileges of the members starting from April. 

6. Organization
a. Board of directors: about 20 members
b. Regular members of board of directors: about 10 members (including the executive director who is in charge of daily affairs)
c. President: one (represent the Association)
d. Vice President: one (supports the President. substitute the President if necessary)
e. Treasurers: two (audit the account and other administration)
f. Advisers: a few (advise the Association)
g. Secretariat: under the executive director

7. Officers
a. Members of the board of directors and treasurers should be elected from the members and be approved at the General Meeting;
b. Regular members of board of directors and president should be elected from among the members of board of directors;
c. Advisers should be elected by regular members of board of directors;
d. The term of office is two years.

8. General Meeting
a. The General Meeting should be held at the annual conference;
b. The decisions made at the general meeting need to be approved by at least 1/2 of the attendants (excluding blank votes). 

9. Accounts
a. The budget of the Association comprises of membership fee, donations and other incomes.
b. The fiscal year of the Association begins on Oct. 1, and ends on Sep. 30.


10. Changing articles

Changes to the articles should be made by the General Meeting.
